Bloodroot is an early spring bloomer that hides in the shade. It’s roots are poisonous, but they also have medicinal uses known to Native Americans as well as cancer researchers. I worked from a photo so as not to get a stiff neck, and enjoyed rendering the many layers of dead leaves and vinca, also in bloom. A complex subject, again, which reminds me that I said that I was going to loosen up in the next painting. This watercolor is 12 x 16.
